Evaluation Task - Use of Sound and Titles

Use of Sound

The use of sound in trailer is very effective and we wanted it to feel the audience is watching any other trailer. For the trailer we wanted something that intensified the trailer hence why we made the music of an intense nature. We wanted something that went well with the events of the trailer and suited to the trailer. To do this we had to make our own product of music and specifically time when all the important moments happen and when we felt was the right time for a music change, which is why timing was very important and why we had to specifically time it. In the end we chose a continuous drum beat that ran throughout the trailer but sped up as the trailer went on. Whenever an important moment happened in the trailer we changed the music slightly to add effect to our trailer, we also had it speed up to keep the intensity grow throughout and towards the end have the audience on the edge of their seats.
We wanted a trailer that conforms with the general horror movie trailer for example movies like World War Z and IT have intense music throughout the trailer, this adds an important aspect to the movie and has the audience scared and excited making them wanting to see the movie. The music has to work well with the trailer and needs to be suited into whats happening and making it more interesting. Music is very important to the trailer and if it goes wrong or doesn't work well with the trailer it could cause problems to sales for the movie. As it is a Horror movie we also wanted to express what type of Horror movie we are making, so we made a zombie grown to the camera towards the end of the trailer to inform the audience it is a horror movie based on zombies and the growl is to also scare the audience.
Throughout the movie we also have voiceovers, we added these voiceovers to keep the audience interested. We feel it was an effective strategy in selling our movie as these voiceovers are made to scare and excite the audience. We had different types of speech in the trailer for example we used intense voices, "A new species has arrived..." We wanted to make this line an intense one liner, we also used it to show that this is a line from our movie and shows the shocking moment. We also used different speech like whispering "Survive" we wanted this to whispered because we wanted to indicate that this could be the bad guy saying this and trying to get into the minds of the good guys.
Just like in the trailer "The Cured" we have a continuous beat that changes and picks up pace as the trailer goes on. In this trailer we can hear a similar continuous beat to ours and it changes throughout, towards the end it picks up pace just like our trailer. This is a popular method to use when doing a horror movie based on zombies

Use of Titles

The use of titles in our trailer is to promote the movie and advertise it to sell tickets. We didn't want to do the conventional advertising by using speech that popular critics have said about the movie as we wanted to go through a different approach. We wanted to sell the movie through intensity and the speech is made to grab the audience and is made to excite them. Using one liners in a trailer has been proven to be an effective way of selling the movie and is used in a lot of trailers for example in the trailer 28 days later they use titles to scare the audience.
In our trailer titles like "One last hope" are effective as it shows that the population of the world is at risk but there is still hope for the humans, this grips the audience as it gives realism to the trailer. Other one liners like "An infamous species reigns" are effective as it could hint that these are no ordinary zombies and could be something completely different to what the audience thought, it could also indicate the humans losing as it does not tell the audience what this new species reigns over as it could be earth.
