Representation
We decided to make the characters in our trailer conform to the general stereotype for our main genre and sub genre being Sci-Fi and Horror. Our characters conformed because they had advanced technology, this is usually shown in Sci-Fi movies and is a very effective indicator to the Sci-Fi genre. We had our characters conform to the general stereotype of characters in Horror movies by having a snip of the 2 main characters running away looking scared, this is a strong indicator to a Horror movie as they are usually scary. We wanted to make the characters in our movie conform because we felt the that the characters are of high importance to the storyline of the movie and we felt the usual conformed genres are usually very successful movies and one of the main aspects of them being so successful is the characters. Having the characters conform to both genres can be very challenging and it was something we had to overcome, we came up with many ideas but finally landed on having scary scenes and scenes with very advanced tech, also setting it in the future was a good aspect to use and helps us conform the general stereotype.
Here we see a snip from our movie Carnage and a snip from the movie World War Z. Both of the movies are Horror movies and in both these scenes we can see the main characters running away. This is why we wanted this type of shot in our movie because we wanted to conform to the general stereotype of horror movies.
These snips are very similar to each other. For example the main characters are seen vulnerable in both these shots as they are running away from something they obviously cannot fight. Another similarity is that it seems that the whole world are involved, in our shot we see jsut two characters this could indicate to the world already been taken over, in World War Z the world seems scared and are all running away.
