Significant Moments
This is our first scene in the trailer and is already a significant moment to the trailer as we would already of got the audience asking questions. This moment is significant as we're indicating to the audience that earth has been taken over by this robot and we are introducing the villain early on in the trailer. This isn't usually done in a trailer usually the villain is not even shown, we wanted to do the opposite and even go as far as not showing much of the protagonist as we wanted to focus on earth being taken over. We have made our movie certificate a 15 this means our target audience are teenagers who have a passion for sci-fi, action and horror movies. We wanted to aim at this target audience as we know this side of film is very popular, sci-fi movies like Iron Man, Doctor Strange and Spider-Man have all proven to be extremely successful movies. This significant moment aims at our target audience well as it expresses the sci-fi genre in our movie and also shows threat to earth which usually excites this type of audience.
This significant moment is of high importance to trailer as well as this also expresses one of the genres in our movie. The horror side can be brought it out in this one shot, having creepy scenes usually tells the audience that the movie is a thriller/horror type movie and after research statues are highly popular in horror movies such as Doctor Who. As the trailer progressed at the start we had only showed the sci-fi side to the movie and were yet to show any indicators to it being a horror movie, we thought what better way to express horror then a creepy statue scene as the first shot. This shot can appeal to our target audience as the horror genre is mainly popular in the teenage age group and is why we chose this age group. Teenagers love being thrilled and scared as it gives excitement and having this shot can scare our audience which is our aim.
This shot is of high significance as we wanted to link our scenes together, we wanted to leave some questions unanswered in the trailer but there some moments that we wanted to tie together for example this scene and our first scene with the multi-eyed robot. We did not want to have a random alien robot on earth without a reason and we feel showing this space station indicates to the audience that this robot is not man made and is actually from another planet. A space station indicates this well as earth does not have space stations of this type and this low down to earth. This is a significant moment to the trailer as it answers some questions but audiences are still left with questions such as where are these aliens from? Are they friendly? We did not want to give too much away as doing that could spoil to the movie. This shot can appeal to target audiences as things from outer of space can appeal to the audience we are aiming at because no one or this age group knows about space and creating a fake universe about aliens from space gives answer for them to speculate about.
This shot is one of the highest significance in the trailer, this is because this is the first shot of our protagonists and they are seen to be running. Showing your movies good guys running and looking vulnerable shows high threat and adds intensity to the trailer. Vulnerability is not usually shown in trailers but we wanted to do it differently because we wanted to express how big this threat is. This scene can leave audiences asking many questions but the main question we wanted to express was what or who are they running from? For the protagonist to be scared of something it has to be something important we wanted to indicate it being the main antagonist. This scene aims at the target audience well as the age group we are aiming at like a hero vs villain story-line and this is what we were going for in the shot but also keeping them attached to the trailer as they would not of seen the heroes vulnerable before.
This is a significant shot as this was purely made for the questions. There are multiple questions to be asked about this scene as we have not given away if this mysterious figure is an antagonist or protagonist we left the audience wondering who this person is. In the scene we show the mysterious figure rocking back an forth this is because we wanted to express a disease taking over the person in the scene. In our movie we plan to have stages of the virus taking over the human body this is just a small clip of what theses stages are. Although we have not given any information on this being a good or bad guy we are trying to indicate that he is just a victim and we want the audience to emphasis for the character. This shot will appeal to the target audience because we are indicating a virus in the trailer usually this age group are interested in this type of story-line this is proven in "28 days later" and "28 weeks later".
This is a significant shot as this is the first action sequence we show in our trailer. As we can see the protagonist is back and is attacking the infected human. This is going to be one of our main action fight sequences in our movie and we wanted to tease a little part of it and we felt this was the perfect way to tease it. An action sequence is an effective way to attract all audiences as fight scenes are a very effective way in making a movie popular and a lot of the movies that have come out in recent times will have a fight scene. This will appeal to our target audience as fight scenes are meant to be cool and exciting to the audience and usually are for this age group.
This is another significant scene in the same fight scene from the snip before. This is just before the fight scene and we wanted to show this as the cause of the fight as the protagonist sidekick has been killed. Showing an important death in trailer can be a risky move as you wouldn't usually show something that may spoil the movie. We showed this anyway because we knew this fight scene would be shown quite early in the movie and this scene could set up the rest of the movie and may tease a plot twist. This scene can appeal to the target audience as it shows the gore and viscous infected human the target audience usually enjoy seeing blood and gore in movies as it is an exciting scene to the audience.
This is a highly important scene to show the audience as it is an explosion of what we tried to indicate as the world. We wanted to show an explosion to suggest the end of the world as that concept has not been used in movies in quite a long time and we wanted to revive that story line as we enjoy those type of movies and we feel our audience will enjoy it too as it add intensity and realism to the trailer. We wanted to have the explosion directly at the end of the trailer to indicate that it is at the end of the movie and could be the end. Having an explosion connotes to an action movie and we wanted to express that more in this trailer hence why we showed this scene. We feel the target audience will enjoy this scene as explosion are always entertaining in movies and to see one of this level is quite the tease and we saw it as the perfect way to end the trailer.
This is a significant scene as we wanted to start the trailer early with a mysterious character which is what we were aiming for in this scene. As it is shown later in the trailer this character is the protagonist but we wanted to have him be mysterious throughout the movie as movies with an unknown hero can be interesting and can be the best type of hero vs villain movies. It makes the audience question there hero and we are aiming for this as we wanted it to always be questioned if he is a good guy. This scene will appeal to the audience as it shows mystery and this is a very under used but effective way to target at this age group.
This is a significant a scene as it is an ordinary helicopter in a sci-fi movie. With all the other sci-fi effects we have added to the trailer we thought we would add this helicopter crash as it shows realism and tells the audience that the humans are still here and fighting. Having it crash and then explode suggests death, it is not indicated who's death whether its an important character or not. This scene can leave the audience asking important questions and is why this scene is so effective. We wanted to leave this scene as a minor cliff hanger as it will not be answered who was in the helicopter. Having this scene is important to the audience as it connotes to action in the trailer which is important as we wanted to express early on that this is going to have action scenes in the movie. This scene will appeal to the audience as it is an action scene and this age group usually enjoys action movies.
This is a significant scene as this shows another stage to the virus. As mentioned before we wanted scenes to link together in the trailer and this would link to the virus spreading scene. This scene was also made in a very quick 1 second as it goes from the shot of the antagonist behind the tree and very quickly next to the camera this was purely made to scare the audience and put them in shock, it was also made to remind the audience that it is still a horror movie and will have scenes aiming to scare the audience. This scene appeals to audiences as it is made to scare the audience and this age group take excitement from being thrilled and scared.
This is the final significant scene in our trailer and also ties into the 3 teases to the spread of the virus. This scene shows the victim looking up to the camera we wanted to show this scene as we wanted to indicate vulnerability. We wanted to express that the victim is going through this horrific stages and is scared and will be vulnerable in this movie. We wanted the audience to feel for this victim and to add realism to the movie as we feel this is how most of the population would react to being infected. This scene would appeal to the audience as it adds realism to the trailer and this age group like to live in this fantasy world and adding realism makes it that much easier to do as they can try and relate to this victim and in the end make the audience cheer for the protagonist as he is a character trying to save humanity.
