Entertainment Weekly Star Wars Magazine Analysis

This is the poster for the new Star Wars movie coming in December 2017. This is a good example of an amazing poster as it has all the aspects a magazine should have. Entertainment Weekly is the magazine company and are known for there movie aspect to there magazines. It is shown as Star Wars being the main theme to the magazine we know this from a few features on the magazine, for example the bold yellow "Star Wars" writing at the top. Having this bold yellow title makes this stand out and the aim is the have the audience see this first, the reason they chose yellow could be that Star Wars titles have always usually been in yellow text and they are sticking with this theme. Another example is the main character of the new movie is the main picture of the poster this is effective as we recognize that this character is the main character of the movie and intrigues Star Wars fans to read the magazine. Another example is the rhetorical question in a bold white font reading "Who is The Last Jedi" this is effective as rhetorical questions are used to intrigue and capture the audience and is a very effective way to campaign a new release. Other features such as other movies coming soon are on the right had side this shows the audience that there are other aspects to the magazine and can interest other audiences not just star wars fans. One of the bold headlines on the front of the magazine reads "128 pages" this is an effective way to market both the movies inside and the magazine as it tells the reader each page has different aspects and isn't all about Star Wars but will be the main theme. 128 pages is a big amount to have in a magazine and for most audiences it would interest them as Entertainment Weekly is a very popular magazine for movie reviews and to have 128 pages would intrigue the audience to see these reviews. Another effective feature to the magazine is have the words "Exclusive Intel" in bold orange writing, having a bold orange font makes these words stand out above smaller and white writing and is very effective. This title is also effective for its meaning, when a magazine has exclusive Intel it means that they have information no one has seen before, this will capture audiences and intrigue them to read the magazine and find out this information. This is a good way to market movies and magazines as the movie will become more popular with all the new information that comes out and the magazine will increase in popularity as it was the first to have the information.

Our Magazine Analysis

This is our final magazine for our movie. We have added a lot of detail to the magazine for example the price, issue number, date  and other advertisements. Adding these details to our magazine cover is effective as it makes it seem like a realistic magazine and adds more realism to the magazine. We have quotes from other movie stars on the poster as well, we feel this is a very effective addition to the magazine as it is engaging to our audience. We used the title "Take Two" as it is a catchy and  memorable title. The title is also white and in bold this is to make it stand out and have an engaging theme of movies as the title clearly indicates to aspects of movies, having it white and bold makes it the most noticeable thing on our magazine. We used other headlines on the right side of our magazine to capture the audience, we used 3 other movies coming out soon having this on our magazine adds realism to the magazine and controls the aspects of the magazine at what is entirely about, it will indicate what the audience will be getting when buying the magazine. The price tag is a good feature to use on a magazine we used orange text to make it stand out as the price usually stands out on a magazine. The colour goes well with the theme and is effective as it stands out and enhances the magazine indicating importance. We give exclusive information about our film as this is the main theme of the magazine. Having quotes on our magazine gives realism and credibility and interests the fans on other aspect in the magazine. A magazine helps campaign the marketing to our movie, having star wars added to the magazine adds a relatable and ultimately enhanced effect on our magazine, this is because star wars is a well known and highly popular Sci-Fi movie which is what we hope our movie will turn out to be. We make a magazine to intrigue, interest and engage our audience and improve popularity and increase sales for our movie.

Poster Final

This is the final poster for our movie. We had quite a few drafts for our poster as we couldn't decide on a final design. In the end we decided on a very similar poster to the final draft with a few differences. We are required to make a poster for our marketing, we thought that making our poster conventional would be effective in marketing our poster to the audience. Some of the conventional features we included in our poster is that we have a large image in middle of the poster, billing, a caption and a large title covering the top of our poster. The large image intrigue the audience and capture the audiences attention, the large image clearly indicates to our horror genre through make up. We tried to disguise our character with make up to make him seem like a zombie. Zombie are one of the main conventions of a horror movie and we wanted to hit our horror genre perfectly.

The use of blue bold text is conventional to Sci-Fi and indicates to our Sci-Fi genre, We have tried to show both genres in our poster and show the audience what to expect for our movie. the layout of the poster is to catch the readers eye we have put important information where the eye will read first this is usually the middle of the page this is why most of our information is in the middle for example the title is the middle of the poster we did this so people can remember our title.

We used Photoshop to create the poster but used other apps for other parts of this poster. For example we used paint to fade darkness around our zombies face to really enhance the scary horror theme and bring out his face which we think is very effective. We also used a website to download the font types and styles to create a stylish poster we thought the text linked and indicated to the Sci-Fi genre as it is blue and bold.

Poster Draft

This is a draft of a poster we could make. This being our first draft there will most likely be many more changes to this poster. We want our film poster to hit all key conventions illustrate and engage our audience. For example we want to have a captivating image in the middle to catch the audiences eye we will also have a tag line just above it with production companies and text which needs credibility over the page. We want the zombie face to stand out to do this we would need to have a faded black background we want it to stand out through darkness. This will also engage audiences who enjoy horror movies as zombies are conventional to the horror genre. The tagline needs to be catchy and engage the audience as it will display the themes of the film and display enigmas. The text will be large over the poster to be bold and captivate the audience and draw them to our movie. The production companies are significant as they show key information about the film.

Zombie Fight Scene 3

In the final shot of this fight scene we see the use props to display the theme of our movie right at the start. Our protagonist is swinging a blade to kill the zombie we use match on action through editing to create a smooth transition of the fight scene. It was important for our trailer that our protagonist filled the whole screen to really show the audience that this is our good guy and they should support these hero.

Zombie Fight Scene 2

This is the second part of the full fight scene of a close up of the zombie being sliced. We will speed up the shot so it looks as if the blade is slicing the zombies neck making a gash that we have created using make up bringing this scene more to life. This shot will be conventional to the genre of horror as it shows blood which will captivate the audience.

Zombie Fight Scene

This shot will be in 3 parts, the 3 parts will be smooth transitions showing the full fight scene. We wanted a fight scene in our trailer to show that there will action in our movie. We needed an intense and intriguing fight scene to capture our audience. We wanted to tease the good guys winning as this a scene where the good guy kills the zombie. However this does not give too much away as the zombie will not be our only and main antagonist for the whole movie.
