Juarassic World Trailer Analysis

This is the trailer for Jurassic World one of the highest grossing movies of all time. Jurassic World was released in 2015 and is a remake of the Jurassic Park series, being  remake audiences were very excited to see what this would be like and if it was as good or better than the Jurassic Park series. Jurassic World is a Sci-Fi/Thriller movie this is shown well as we see them genetically making dinosaurs which is not possible and lets us believe in a fantasy world.

Throughout the trailer we see many examples of Tzvetan Todorov’s Theory of Narrative. Tzvetan Todorov’s Theory of Narrative shows that in very movie there are stages. The equilibrium, this is where the world is normal and nothing is really happening, the disruption, this is where the equilibrium is broken and something bad has happened, the attempt to repair and the restoration of the equilibrium. This is shown throughout this trailer, at the beginning we see the equilibrium or the films version of the equilibrium. An equilibrium can differ in every movie, in this one normal is people visit a park full of Dinosaurs. We know this is the equilibrium because the kids are excited to see the dinosaurs and the mother says "have fun on your trip". We also see the disruption as the intense music changes and has the line "Evacuate the park" and "RUN!" is said the music intensifies, these are all signals to exaggerate the disruption. As this is the trailer we do not see the attempt at repairing or the restoration as we have to find those out when the movie comes out.

The rest of the trailer shows scary bits to keep us excited for the movie as it is a thriller and it needs to get the audience on the edge of their seats. Throughout the trailer there is constant music being played, at first this music is upbeat and is there to show the excitement of the park and show off all the CGI used to make this park. Then when the disruption happens the music changes it gets quicker and more intense this is to show that there has been a change and something bad is about to happen. The camera work throughout the trailer is used very well, in one scene we see the camera pan from looking at the kids in a ball to looking up at a dinosaur. This is very effective because it could be trying to show that the kids are vulnerable compared to dinosaurs as the low angle shot looking up at the dinosaur shows this dinosaur has power and is threatening.

The mise-en-scene is very effect as this whole park isn't real. This movie has done very well in making an imaginary place, making a pretend world could interest the audience, this is because people like to watch tv shows or movies to put themselves in a different world and it may interest some viewers to be in a world with dinosaurs. The editing in this trailer is very well done as the cutting doesn't reveal too much of the movie but also keeps us wanting more. The fast paced cutting is effective as it shows multiple scenes in very few seconds.
